Ask.com’s search engine is going local. Now, Ask.com will focus on local results in an attempt to make a bigger splash and catch up to rivals Yahoo! and Google.
After being continually overshadowed by its competitors, Ask.com is hoping to finally shine with a new service billed as a one-stop destination for information about neighborhood events, movies, restaurants, and other businesses. "AskCity," as the service is named, is scheduled to debut Monday.
Ask boasts that its results will include more information in a single panel, including richer maps, more lists of nearby attractions and related businesses. According to industry pundits, the service is at least as good as Yahoo! and better than Google, but it is unlikely to push Ask.com past either rival.
